The Nile River
Written By Kyle
In the sixth grade class at St.Mary’s school, we started learning about agricultural farming from the Nile River. We talked about how dry places in Africa depended on the Nile and how people turned the Nile River into a tool for farming. They depended on the Nile so much because there weren't many major waterways that ran through Africa like the Nile did. They used the Nile for farming because of their seasonal flooding, but there were disadvantages to the flooding. When the flooding was too high it destroyed houses, livestock, and crops, but when the flooding was too small they had to use tools called shadoofs to lift water into the fields. When we started learning about the Nile we weren't struggling, but we weren't pros either, but now we know so much about the Nile.

Reading Mrs. Spitzer's Garden Written By Claire The sixth grade class has been working on a project based off of the book,”Mrs. Spitzer’s Garden.” During this project, each student’s job was to create a flower that represents their personality and creativity. One of the reasons that we did this project is because the book sends a message to kids that they are unique and valued. In the process, we got some very creative flowers. This was a great accomplishment for the sixth grade class and we hope to have more projects like this. |
Our First Music Project
Written By Leah
It was the first day of music class and we got to do a music project! Mrs. Warpinski gave the 6th grade class a project called “The Soundtrack of our Life.” We had to pick songs that we like and write why we like those songs. I really liked that project! :) When we shared our music projects I liked listening to my classmates’ favorite songs.

The New Library Look Written By Bryan When we go to library, we go to the North Hall. The North Hall is a nice, quiet place to relax and read a good book. When we went to library the first time we were surprised that the library was rearranged. It was much easier to find a book. We got new books like the “I Survived” series, and new Saint Books. I like the Saint stories the best. Every Wednesday we go to read new books! The sixth graders get to read and then share what we read. Mrs. Ropson came out of retirement to be our school librarian. She makes it fun to read and share what we read. Mrs. Ropson is awesome. If everybody read a book a week the world would be a better place to be in. |
Generic Rectangles
Written By Luke
In math, the sixth grade class started learning about generic rectangles to make multiplying fractions and decimals easier. At first most kids struggled with them, but some kids were good at them. Some kids didn't like them at first, but then the students caught on.
